Pacific East will bring the statewide science leadership team together to unify our vision, prepare for the Next Generation Science Standards review, and map out curriculum support following the release of High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM). Attendees will engage in immersive partnerships, development of teacher resources and toolkits, among other forward planning.
Intended Outcomes:
- Immersive Partnerships: Engage in shared place-based science experiences at Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology (Moku o Loʻe) and Waikalua Loko Iʻa.
- NGSS Onboarding Toolkit: Develop 1-hour, 3-hour, and full-day introductory resources for Hawai’i teachers.
- Calendar: Backwards map the upcoming school year’s Complex Area Science Professional Learning Communities, detailing monthly agenda topics, outcomes, and goals.
- HQIM Implementation & Adaptation Strategy: Review the newly released HQIM list to identify support structures for implementation gaps (e.g., place-based alignment, differentiation, multi-lingual learners, and assessment data interpretation).
- ‘Āina-Based Toolkit: Create a resource bank containing localized crosswalks, phenomenon banks, and local phenomenon assessments.
- School-Level PLC Readiness: Prepare complex area points of contact (POCs) with the scaffolding needed to launch school-level science PLCs the following year.
